This isn't actually a joke. In one of the muppets movies an angel sends kermit to some alternate universe where he was never born. In this universe the twin towers are still standing (This is a post 9/11 movie I should add, 2002), however, in the original universe they aren't there. Ergo kermit played a key role in that event.
